چکیده

Nalidixic acid (Negram) is an antimicrobial agent widely used in the treatment of urinary tract infection. Some years ago Boreus and Sundstrom (1967) reported intracranial hypertension in a 6-month-old boy treated with nalidixic acid at the manufacturer's recommended dose. Only a few cases have been reported since, mostly in children treated either with large doses (Fisher, 1967) or for prolonged periods of from 16 days to 6 weeks (Guran, Moriette, and Blanc, 1972; Anderson, Anderson, and Nashold, 1971). 2 babies were recently admitted with the diagnosis of acute intracranial hypertension, both having been treated with nalidixic acid for less than 24 hours.

Evaluation of Quinolone Resistance in Escherichia coli Isolates Recovered from Urine and Feces of Patients with Acute or Recurrent Urinary Tract Infection

Introduction: Antibiotic resistance, especially in Gram-negative uropathogens such as Escherichia coli, is the main barrier to treat urinary tract infection (UTI). In recent years, the dramatically increased resistance of E. coli to quinolones, a group of widely used antibiotics, has become a significant concern. Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, we collected 261 E. coli isola...

Brain lactate by magnetic resonance spectroscopy during fulminant hepatic failure in the dog.

A noninvasive test is needed to assess the severity of encephalopathy during fulminant hepatic failure. This feasibility study was designed to compare a noninvasive test, brain lactate measurement by magnetic resonance spectroscopy, with intracranial pressure monitoring in a large animal model of fulminant hepatic failure. Five dogs received an intraventricular catheter for intracranial pressur...

Valproic acid producing a Reye-like syndrome.

.Although several cases of acute hepatic failure associated with the administration of valproic acid (VPA) have been reported, the pathogenesis of this problem remains unclear. We report the case of a 40 month old male with a chronic seizure disorder treated with VPA and phenytoin for two years, who developed sudden progressive neurological deterioration with evidence of increased intracranial ...

In vitro and in vivo antibacterial activity of AB206, a new naphthyridine derivative.

AB206 (5,8-dihydro-5-methoxy-8-oxo-2H-1,3-dioxolo-4,5-g quinoline 7-carboxylic acid) is a novel antibacterial agent structurally related to nalidixic acid. AB206 has potent antibacterial activity against clinical isolates of gram-negative bacteria and is 4 to 18 times more active than nalidixic acid. AB206 inhibited the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which were resi...
